The Purpose of the Church

The purpose of the Church is the new preaching series during January 2022.

Now, it sounds presumptious to call a series the purpose of The Church, and it would be so if the claim is that this is the only way to think about the purpose of the worldwide church.

Actually, there are many ways to think about God's People and their purpose in this world. This series will explore one of the ways to think about the Body of Christ, i.e. the worldwide church, and its reason for existence.

Jesus said, "I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Why would Jesus be interested in building a church? What is the purpose of building a church? These are the kinds of questions one ponders when life slows down during a Covid year.

In this series I will argue that the purpose of the church is derived from the purpose of humanity, as described in Genesis, and the purpose of Israel, as described in the Old Testament, and the future of the redeemed, as described in Revelation. Come and join us as we discuss some of these big questions during the month of January!
